In the latest episode of First Rounds On Me, we were privileged to dive into the world of luxury hospitality, lust and love with the one and only Graham Arnold, distinguished former General Manager of Soho House West Hollywood and all around amazing human. Graham’s rich background in luxury hospitality not only shaped his illustrious career, but also provided some very unique insights into the delicate dance of dating in a city as vibrant as Los Angeles.
In the world of media, where personal lives are often played out for public consumption, navigating a breakup can be a challenging task that is often accompanied by scrutiny and speculation. When it comes to Dave Portnoy, the renowned and somewhat controversial founder of Barstool Sports, it surprised me that his recent handling of the separation from Silvana Mojica caught a lot of flack from my fellow lovers and ladies. I actually think it stands out as a wonderful display of maturity, emotional intelligence and even grace from someone who is often known for his loud, and sometimes vicious, opinions. Speaking about the news to TikTok stars and co-hosts of his BFFs podcast Josh Richard and Bri Chickenfry, the 46-year-old said he couldn’t give his younger partner what she was looking for. “We were dating for three years and I guess you get to a point where you think maybe there’s a difference in what somebody wants and what the other person wants and without going into too much detail, I just didn’t think I could give Silvana kind of what she deserves,” Portnoy explained. “She’s so beautiful, she’s funny, she’s smart, she’s all these things, it’s probably a me-issue because I’m old and single at this point… but if I don’t think I’m the guy that she is looking for and is going to be able to provide her with what she needs down the road… “

Who could ever forget Barbie, the iconic plastic doll who has been a fixture in our lives for generations… She’s had many makeovers over the years, and most recently you’d know, unless you’ve been living under a rock, she made her way to the big screen thanks to Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig. This recent and fucking fabulous movie, a cinematic spectacle celebrating the doll’s enduring legacy, followed Barbie’s journey of self-discovery, challenging the notion that perfection is the ultimate goal. In the latest episode of First Rounds On Me, our listeners were treated to an engaging and insightful conversation with none other than the charismatic and all around legend of a human, Monte Taylor. Monte kicked off the episode by providing a behind-the-scenes look at the mental toughness required for reality TV, particularly on shows like Big Brother. Our listeners gained some valuable insights into the challenges contestants face and the strategies they employ to navigate the intense environment of competitive reality shows. Monte then opened up about the struggles men encounter in embracing vulnerability, addressing societal expectations and the importance of breaking free from traditional stereotypes. He then shared valuable insights on healthy dating habits, emphasizing the importance of authenticity. We were all encouraged to be true to ourselves early and often in the dating game, fostering genuine connections built on honesty and openness. He then weighed in on the texting aspect of dating apps, emphasizing less texting and more meeting. This part of our convo underlined the significance of spontaneous moments and the beauty of genuine, in-person connections, which of course is music to our ears. Lessons I learnt along the way ? So, so many…. but perhaps it was when Monte reiterated his golden rule, which is that he has no room for negativity in his dating life, that really resonated with me. This positive approach to the dating realm really emphasizes the importance of fostering an uplifting, encouraging and optimistic atmosphere in relationships. An attitude that I believe we all need to embrace, both in dating and for life in general. Safe to say, this is a must watch episode all around. However, within these challenges lie numerous opportunities to create memorable moments with someone new, or deepen connections with an existing romance. Grab a glass of eggnog, and lets dive in…
